From Field to Sealed to Your Table

Did you know that there are a ton of benefits to cooking with canned foods? Despite the common misperception, canned foods are actually quite nutritious. The reason for this is cans seal in freshness and flavor, locking in nutrients at the peak of ripeness – just after hours of picking! The harvest-to-can time can be as little as two hours.

According to a UC Davis study, many canned fruits and vegetables have equal or more nutrients than their fresh or frozen counterparts do. Canned foods also help us to reduce the amount of food we waste, saving us time and money and reducing our impact on the environment. Can recycling saves enough energy to power 18 million households per year, and more than 600 steel cans are recycled every second in the U.S. alone!

At Raley’s, Bel Air and Nob Hill Foods, we offer more than 1,500 varieties of food packaged in cans – from fruits to veggies to beans to sauces. They are a great timesaver for speedy recipes, budget-friendly and a nice substitute when produce is not in season. Many of our Raley’s canned foods are grown locally and canned in Woodland, Lodi and Oroville. Next time you stop in for groceries, why not consider picking up a few canned foods to add to your “cantry?”
